Comment Prompt/Reminder Plugin

Just a quick note to say I have finished and zipped up my Wordpress plugin to encourage visitors to comment. The plugin displays a message to visitors who haven't commented after a certain number of visits. The whole thing is customisable from position to the message as well as when you want to start the nagging!

If your interested then visit the Comment Prompt download page and let me know what you think. It's running on this site at the 12 page view mark and is located at the end of posts.

thanks t. hoping to create a wordpress driven site for our new domain, africanbass.co.za. will probably use this plugin. one thing though, the sums you give for spam protection are sometimes very hard. could you not stick to 1 + one? thanks!

@Jansie I did once have a plan to make people solve simple logic puzzles but when I user tested my idea I realised that my concept of simple needed adjusting. I am playing with maths puzzles so expect them to change slightly to include a few more complex 1+4-2 = style ones in there just for added fun!

Hope both of you enjoy the plugin, I think the idea is pretty sound but would love to hear other peoples views, the plugin was born out of desire to encourage more discussion on this blog in particular. Though perhaps setting the number of visits so high mean few will see it.

Hey Tim, neat idea for a plugin. I’m going to have a look at it for my blog.

Hi Tim,

Great plugin – thanks – One little thing though – it shows the prompt on pages where I’ve switched off comments. Is there any quick fix for this?

Also your spam protection plugin is very annoying – I think my arithmetic is up to the challenge, but it doesn’t like my answers, and deletes the comment every time the page refreshes. This is my third attempt.

Hi Derrick no you just posted 3 comments (2 identical) in a row ;) and I had to pull the third out of Akismet. The hopefully big image saying All first comment are moderated may need to be changed to include so don’t keep submitting them! I will look at putting a friendly message up when I take the plunge and upgrade wordpress.

re your request this was the first plugin I wrote so I will have to go back and take a look I suspect it needs a rewrite anyway to make sure it only shows the nag on single pages. If I get some free time today I will have a butchers and see what I can do for you.

Great, little plugin this but unfortunately it displays the message on the home page of the blog , as well as at the top/ bottom of the actual blog entry it’self.

Is there anyway to make it so it only appears once a user clicks on a post to read it rather than in the short intro of the post displayed on the home page?

Had to disable it for now but it’s bloody useful.

Cheers.

Hi Tim,

Nice plugin. One question: Is there a way to disable (maybe through a custom field) the plugin on specific pages/posts?
