Flash does pass link juice and pagerank as I have recently observed evidence to confirm this when working on a client site.

Basically we created a site, uploaded it to a private preview area on our site (no IBL's of course, no pagerank). There was a link within one of these Flash files hard coded to our site and which remained unchanged when we supplied the client with the final files. Client puts all files on their website (Pagerank 6) and a while later I notice some of our initial development links had been indexed by Google... Of course this mistake was rectified but in the meantime, our preview links had enjoyed pageranks between 3 and 5!

What I do wonder is can Google find all links within a Flash file, even those off-stage... I'm sure there's a black-hat technique in there just waiting to be exploited by unscrupulous SEO's!!

Thanks

I am still unclear of the impact a Flash navigation menu (combined with pure HTML rest-of-site) will impact SEO. If your nav menu in Flash contains symbols with getURL links the links are not followed?

Thanks for the test. I've been wondering about the flash indexing ability of google. It looks as though its improving just not there quite yet.

So when will we be able to use the compelling design and motion provided by Flash and still have a site that is seo friendly. I currently run two sites one for seo one for pure athsetics. I would love to meld the two together and focus my attention on one. Thansk for a great blog - great information
