Want advice on StumbleUpon?

Update: Your to late! but you can see the Stumble Rocks presentation notes.

Blatant plug, but on the 19th of September I will be in Leeds at the second northern Bloggers Meetup. Where I will be doing a short presentation and no doubt answering questions on one of my favourite subjects of StumbleUpon. Given how much this topic has been talked about in the past I will use my usual numbers and stats routine to dispel some of the myths such as “you can’t sell on Stumbleupon” and show you just how long you have to impress the average stumbler.

I won’t be speaking at any conferences this year the only one I even pondered talking at was a4uexpo which Al from Self Made Minds will be speaking at and Patrick from Blog Storm is planning to attend but since the rude souls didn’t even have the courtesy of emailing me a reply it’s their loss I’m not that offended ;)

Anyway the good news is the North of England Bloggers Meetup is free (you can subscribe to the mailing list for latest details) to attend and has some great people associated with it including Jaime Harrop and Chris Garrett (of problogger book fame) so if your in Leeds at around 6.30pm with nothing to do then the Old Broadcasting House is the place to visit! Tea and coffee were provided last time with a request that you made a small donation of 50p or a £1 and it ended in a local pub. I can’t imagine it will not happen like that this time either ;)

I personally prefer small gatherings every person I met at the last meetup had something interesting to say and being small and informal means you will learn so much more then large expensive conferences where lets face it the speakers are pushed for time and have to appeal to the masses so even if they did have something interesting to say it normally gets lost. While the Northern Bloggers meetup is under the umbrella of Wordcamp its open to all and if your not in the north of England look to see if you have one locally they might not have an amazing StumbleUpon session going but I’m sure it will be almost as good.

Well as someone who’ll never get to attend a ‘real’ conference through work (boss=”it’s how much?!”) I’d love to come along if I can :)

It was great fun last time and I’m sure it will be this time as well, hope you can make it and welcome to my blog :)

    Hi Tim,

Good to meet you at the last event and I really look forward to your talk on the 19th as I must admit I have never used StumbleUpon.

    Thanks,

    Andrew..

It’s a great way to not get things done ;)
While great fun, an awesome tool for bloggers it’s also the procrastinators best friend.

Still as long as your careful not to get to addicted you will be fine.

    Hi Tim

I’m hoping to be there – my first time at a bloggers meetup! Like Andrew, I haven’t used StumbleUpon, so will be very interested to hear what you have to say

    Cheers, Jon

    Hi Tim,

Well done on a great presentation yesterday. It definitely gave me some food for thought on Stumble as a blogging tool.

It was also interesting to find out how Stumble have put in place measures to stop people manipulating it…unlike sites like Digg.

Also, I wanted to thank you and Jamie for organising the event. As a newcomer to the event it was great to meet some fellow bloggers and share tips…I really liked Jamie’s tip on taking half an hr each day to comment on other peoples blog who’ve commented on yours (a great way to make friends)!

The only thing that was missing was more women. Apart from Karen (Miss Thrifty) and myself, I think there are a lot more female bloggers out there who would find these meet up very interesting!

Glad you enjoyed it :) Jaime did the hard work I turned up and talked. It would be nice to see more women bloggers at those sort of events I think its partly down to the fact that its currently loosely affiliate with WordCamp and people think its going to be uber geeky maybe we need to do some women orientated marketing.
