thanks for the comments guys I’m glad you enjoyed it Karen its interesting I never meant the post to come across as negative simply that bloggers shouldn’t abuse a competition for backlinks as its a waste of resources I’m all for competitions and writing projects but for their own sake not some SEO purpose.

I have to admit this post is pretty entertaining. And helpful too. You’ve raised some important matters that most bloggers (myself included) might not take into consideration when they think about running their own contests.

The way you used that image of a brick wall was a good example of how pics can be used to enhance posts. And this is yet another lesson I myself need to learn.

Tim,
I don’t disagree with any of your points, but a lot of bloggers with around 100 subscribers or so have managed to get a lot out of contests. If its a new blog that has 3 readers, sure that’s different. It should be noted though that any kind of successful contest will take a lot of work, and that is time you no longer have for other priorities. Interesting post.
