You do have to be registered to use both Adaptive Payments and Adaptive Accounts separately through their ticketing system (giving both your x.com username and sandbox details) and use an app ID which I think in the documentation may say is optional (it was till a week before innovate) but is now required again this is got from Paypal this might be your problem otherwise afraid I don't know and your best bet is talking to Paypal dev team.

Well, I got a premier account and the AdaptiveAccounts API example [in the specs PDF] is only SOAP. Exactly the same parameters in NVP do not work with the Sandbox API-ID they provide on site. I don't use SOAP [I like shower gel].

I got all other examples to work in AdaptivePayments and I have the old API [Recurring Payments and MassPay] working for 'centuries'. AdaptiveAccounts just won't work.

Weird ...

PS: Business accounts in sandbox are verified by default.

I think a business or premier account is required for any use of Paypal APIs, your sandbox account needs to be set as a verified business account I think, even if live you only have a premier account but you might want to check that with the paypal dev team.

Their is some pretty indepth documentation on x.com but its well hidden and also assumes prior knowledge your best bet is to grab the code samples and start playing once you get into the code the docs become more intuitive.

There's nu such thing as chicken and egg scenario.
Christians know the chicken was first as God created everything mature with reproductive capabilities ;)

A stupid question: Is a business account required for Adaptive Accounts or Adaptive Payments?
Adaptive Payments work in Sandbox (didn't test live) but Adaptive Accounts just seem to fail in sandbox. Can't create a bloody one (in Sandbox with NVP) even if parameters seem to be right.

PS: Documentation is so poor on these.

Thats the problem, very much chicken and egg scenario, until people start supporting adaptive payments as a remote party people won't use it, until people use it suppliers are not going to provide headless apps to accesss.

One of the reasons I think this may be different and break the cycle is Paypal near monopoly on payments online.

These payment types are very interesting structures.
Currently I'm a reseller @hyperspin (website monitoring) and if someone has paid the service I get the full amount from the customer and I need send (or stock) money (in)to my hyperspin account that the customer get his service. This is okay for smaller orders, but I doesn't work if the order is about xxx USD and if I'm far away from a computer.

The new split/chained payment features will solve these problems (if my partner will update his application)

Great review Tim!
