Reputation management SEO is less about manipulating your sites but rankings as a whole to effectively manage SERPs you will need a fair number of “friendly” sites. If a negative site appears then you may wish to bump it down the rankings. The simplest most practical way is to have 9 sites which you control and concentrate on pushing those sites through the rankings. While this may take time if you have your puppet sites already ranking well it will be difficult for other sites to come into your keyword. This technique is often used by affiliate marketers who attempt to dominate a lucrative but necessarily highly competitive keyword.
While in the perfect world you would have 9 completely independent and unique sites all hosted separately this is not practical so perhaps the easiest method is to use free and existing sites.
Managing a company SERPs;
Of course if your company has multiple sites the number of free sites you need is reduced
Managing a personal SERP;
- Home page
- Squidwho (the person part of Squidoo)
- ClaimID
- Myspace
- Forum/ social media profiles
- Wordpress.com
- Googlepages
The more sites you have the better, don’t be afraid to interlink sites in your network but avoid linking from your main site to the rest of the network you want to funnel all the link juice to your primary site. While it is the network as a whole that will protect your SERP each site is individual and should be treated as such. For each site add and maintain links just as you would your main site though try to vary where those links are gained from.
